The following tutorial implements a REST API server using the MyBatis persistence framework. The scenario is that of an e-commerce application. Database access in this application is managed using MyBatis.

Prerequisites

This tutorial assumes that you have:

  • YugabyteDB up and running. Download and install YugabyteDB by following the steps in Quick start.
  • Java Development Kit (JDK) 1.8, or later, is installed. JDK installers for Linux and macOS can be downloaded from OpenJDK, AdoptOpenJDK, or Azul Systems.
  • Apache Maven 3.3, or later, is installed.

Clone the "orm-examples" repository

$ git clone https://github.com/YugabyteDB-Samples/orm-examples.git

There are a number of options that can be customized in the properties file located at src/main/resources/mybatis/config/mybatis-config.xml. Given YSQL's compatibility with the PostgreSQL language, the datasource driver property is set to org.postgresql.Driver and the url property is set to the YSQL JDBC URL: jdbc:postgresql://localhost:5433/yugabyte.

Build the application

$ cd orm-examples/java/mybatis
$ mvn -DskipTests clean package

Load the tables

$ cd java/mybatis
$ ysqlsh -f src/main/resources/db-scripts/schema-create-db.sql

Run the application

Start the MyBatis application's REST API server at http://localhost:8080.

$ mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass=com.yugabyte.mybatis.server.BasicHttpServer

Send requests to the application

Create 2 users.

Note that orderline is a child table of the parent orders table connected using a foreign key constraint.
